The Alltech Story

Global animal health and nutrition company, Alltech, is the first-ever title sponsor of the Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games 2010™ taking place September 25th - October 10th at the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington, Kentucky. The company has a challenging and inspiring mission – to improve animal health and performance by adding nutritional value to animal feed. Founder Dr. Pearse Lyons believed that by using natural yeast fermentation, the company could provide natural solutions to the challenges facing the animal feed industry. Yeast fermentation has remained the cornerstone of Alltech’s success, and it is through this core competency that the company has developed its cutting-edge global brands. In 1983, Alltech launched Yea-Sacc®1026 to optimize fiber digestion and nutrient utilization. This product was the first of its kind to gain EU regulatory approval. Bioplex®, Alltech’s chelated trace mineral range of Copper, Manganese, Iron and Zinc has been shown to yield improvements in coat condition and in hoof health and strength. Sel-Plex® is a selenium yeast product reviewed and approved by the FDA and EU for a variety of species and known to impact fertility and antioxidant status. Mycosorb® is also a popular brand in the Alltech range. Alltech’s nutritional additives are a small percentage of an animal’s diet, but they contribute significantly to optimal performance. Alltech’s commitment to equine education formally began in 1998 with a multi-day seminar and continues to this day with an annual equine session at the Alltech International Feed Industry Symposium in Kentucky. This session is complemented by frequent local meetings for farm managers. With Alltech’s sponsorship of the Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games 2010 comes an increased focus on equine research. Alltech’s Center for Animal Nutrigenomics studies, among other things, the effect of nutrition on gene expression. The company is also proud to reach out to students by sponsoring a number of Ph.D. and Masters candidates as well as the Alltech Young Scientist competition. Headquartered in the United States, Alltech has developed a strong presence in 120 countries. The company employs 2,300 people and has 21 production facilities around the world. This global presence gives Alltech the unique ability to interact with customers and research communities worldwide and deliver cutting-edge, research-based solutions that provide superior performance.
